ENDURANCE TRAINING AND CONDITIONING

Pricing will vary depending on where your horse is at in his/her career. The reason for this is because it takes less time in the saddle to condition a horse for 25 mile rides than it does 100 mile rides. I will not condition a horse for a 75 or 100 mile ride unless it has already been trained and competed for 50’s. If there are any behavioral issues with your horse these will be address as well but may take time away from Endurance Training. I believe firmly that in order for all horses to be good trail/endurance horse, manners matter. I do not require them to be perfect but if they are “all go and no whoa!” then I will address those issues first. I will take horses that require just manners training, re-started (meaning they have been out to pasture for a while but have been ridden before) or have never been broke. I believe in keeping an honest open relationship with my clients about their horse, the horses potential and where the horse is at in their training. I get asked frequently what method or style of training I like to use? My only answer to that is that I always try to apply just enough pressure to get the job done especially when it comes to manners. I treat my horses as if they were my son and daughter. My daughter you can tell her something once and she’s got it, my son needs to be told several times. My daughter you can be stern with and she shrugs it off with no problems where my son you need to handle with a little more care. Horses are much like kids in that some are easy, pick up on everything you ask for and for the most part make you look good. Whereas others you need to treat with a little more assertiveness, a stronger hand and sometime pop from time to time. In many cases the owners are as much of the problems when it comes to the manners of the horse. If this is the case you will be told how you too can help better your relationship with your horse. I like to see owners involved with the training of the horse as it will only help you bond with the animal and make my job easier. I charge slightly higher prices because I am more about quality than quantity. You will never see me with more horses that I can ride in 1 day. I normally will never have more than 1-2 client horses at a time. This way I can attend to that horses needs without worrying as much about time restraints.
Prices: (4 weeks) Prices include board, training and hay. I do not include feed so that the horse’s diet will not change, that we cut down on the risk of colic or any other health issues.

“No Hoof, No Horse”…

As a Certified Journeyman Farrier I have made it my goal to shoe and trim horses to the needs of the horse, the rider and the goals that are set for that horse. I will never put the needs of the rider before the horse if I believe it may potentially cause harm or damage to the hoof, legs or horse. Every horse is taken on a case by case evaluation and recommendation are made according to first what the horse needs and second what the ride/owner wants. In other words, I don’t care what you want; my client is the horse and not the person. I will however take into consideration what your goals are for the horse but will never put those goals above the horses overall health.

I am asked frequently Trim vs. Shoes. I believe in giving your horse the amount of support it needs in order to complete the job it is being asked to do. There are many things to take into consideration when trying to decide if your horse needs shoes or not. Conformation of the horse’s leg and body, hoof angles, thickness of the hoof wall are just a few things to consider. Each horse is evaluated and each is trimmed and shoed to set that horse up for success.

Therapeutic and corrective shoeings are taken on a case by case basis. I am very familiar with Navicular and Foundered horses. I see close to 20-30 foundered horses a year working with various vets ranging anywhere from mild to advanced cases. I am more than happy to work with vets who are willing to exchange ideas in order to find common grounds on the treatment of the horse. I am very particular to my treatment method because I have been very fortunate with my success of my Foundered cases, losing maybe 1 out of 30 horses. That one usually being a horse that has been Foundering for a long time and too much time has passed.

Basic Prices:

Trim: $35 for 2 or more horses
$40 for one horse or ½ Draft Horse
$50 Draft Horse

½ Shoeing: $ 85

Full Shoeing: $110

Founders: $110 Hour; usually works out to be $200-$400 the first visit and then lowers considerably as the horse recovers.

Most horses fall under just the normal pricing. The reason Founders are different is because much time is taken explaining what is going on, what I am doing, looking at x-rays, talking with vets, shoeing the horse, etc.

All prices are a base line and will vary according to if we need pads, borium, aluminum shoes, bar shoes, etc. So please ask for pricing before work begins.
