Vet checks, the most underestimated concept in endurance. What if I told you that most races were not won on the course? What if I said that they are won in the Vet Gates...interested? The average time it took Nobby, the 2010 World Champion Endurance Horse to cross the vet check was 50-90 seconds. Most of the top ten horses were all under 120 seconds and averaged around 90 seconds. How is this done? Yes it takes a superior horse in incredible conditioning but it also takes an amazing crew.
Lets look at it another way. My horse constantly gets through the vet gate in 1 min and yours takes 4-5 mins (which is what I usually see from most people). What this means to me is that in a 100 mile race you are giving my horse a 20-25 min head start. That can equal up to an average of 5 miles!! Wow!! Thanks for the head start!
You are invited to attend our Crewing and Vet Clinic and see the difference it can make to you and your horse. In the clinic we will cover topics ranging from: heart rates, water temp, air temp, to blanket or not to blanket (that is the question: sorry, couldn't help myself), what is the fastest way to remove tack, how to trot your horse properly (A BIGGY!!!) and much, much more. Sounds easy but people are constantly amazed at the difference good crewing makes.
So come out and enjoy an afternoon with us. There will be a classroom session followed by a hands on practicing. We will take a short break after the classroom for a quick lunch so bring a sandwich and something to drink. We encourage you to bring your own horse and tack so that we can work with you personally on the best way to crew with your own horse. Plan on getting wet, so dress appropriately! And when you're all done and your all excited about your new knowledge go for a ride on the beautiful 7IL course and maybe even practice a little crewing!
We hope you'll join us for this fun evening of friends, fellowship, horses and horsing around!

Come join us at beautiful 7IL Ranch for a relaxing day of Endurance banter. The clinic will cover in detail all the different aspects of endurance, ranging from various types of workouts/conditioning, race strategy, heart rates, horse conformation, vetting, feed, electrolytes, trim/boot/shoe and much more. Since this is a classroom only clinic (you're free to ride afterward) we will spend most of our time going into detail the different aspects of what endurance is, training and how to be successful. After each section we will have a question and answer period so that we can answer your questions directly. We make our clinics very client friendly and encourage participation from our participants so that you walk away with a better understanding of the material. It is our goal to educate you as a rider/trainer/horseman/horsewoman so that your horse can go on to have a long, safe and successful career in Endurance.
This clinic will be geared toward riders interested in training/competing in 25/50 mile rides (Beginners and Novice) and will lightly touch on 75’s and 100’s. The Advanced Training Techniques and Conditioning Clinic is an intense look at physical fitness for both you and your horse. We guarantee that it can and will help you succeed at any level of competition that you may be interested in (not just Endurance). This clinic is a classroom only clinic but is considered an advanced series only because of the information that will be provided. We encourage riders from any and all distances/disciplines, from beginner to advanced to attend. In this clinic we will be breaking down different kinds of workouts, to include:
* Easy pacing
* Marathon pacing
* Threshold Training
* Rep Training
* Interval Training
* Long pacing
* Training for Time
* Training for Distance
We will also examine how these workouts affect the body, which muscle groups they work and how the heart and lungs are affected. Also covered is how to train for different distances and disciplines. The difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic training as well as nutrition, race strategy, fitness theory and much, much more. This is a hard core and in depth look at physical fitness for both you and your horse. You and your horse are a team, so we like to treat you like a team. All the training techniques taught can be used for both horse and rider. We encourage our riders to train themselves with many of the same techniques. Then they, too, can feel the effects on their own bodies and gain a better understanding of how the techniques affect their horses. If you are really interested in developing alternate workouts and increasing your own personal knowledge of fitness for not only your horse but yourself then this is the clinic for you.
Suggested items to bring:
- Snacks/drinks (lunch will be provided)
